Onstage at Vanity Fair’s New Establishment Summit in Los Angeles, Jeffrey Katzenberg and Meg Whitman revealed the name of their extremely expected mobile video business understood previously as NewTV.
The name is Quibi, brief for “fast bites,” per a note on its brand-new site: “Something cool is originating from Hollywood and Silicon Valley — fast bites of fascinating home entertainment, developed for mobile by the finest skill, created to fit completely into any minute of your day.”
The short-form video service, releasing next year, will run on a two-tiered membership design comparable to Hulu, per Deadline . Quibi is formulating initial material with Oscar-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua and Spider-Man director Sam Raimi, along with Get Out manufacturer Jason Blum and Van Toffler, the CEO of digital media production business Gunpowder &&Sky, a representative for the business verified to TechCrunch.
The Hollywood Reporter states the del Toro task “is a modern-day zombie story,” the Fuqua job is “a contemporary variation of Dog Day Afternoon” and the Blum task, entitled Villagers and wolves, might be compared to Fatal Attraction.
